Antequera, a city where every corner hides a building worth observing, is also surrounded by UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Discover with us one of the most beautiful cities in Spain and why it is called the “Florence of Spain.”

Discover the treasures hidden in Antequera

In the heart of Andalusia and a crossroads between all the important cities of the region, Antequera has always been famous for its fertility. If it once provided fruits to all the surrounding towns, today it offers us its history, art, and culture.

Explore its narrow streets and splendid squares filled with monuments that speak of a millenary city, inhabited for 6,000 years as evidenced by its Dolmens, primitive cemeteries of enormous value. As enormous as the stones they are built with.

We will start the tour at the highest part of Antequera and gradually descend to the lower city, noticing the difference between the two parts of the city but above all discovering the Roman and Arab past and the great Baroque development that gives the city its personality and character, without forgetting the oldest Renaissance temple in Andalusia: the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor.

The Alcazaba, the Arch of the Giants, San Sebastián, the Plaza del Coso Viejo, and many other charming corners complete this two-hour visit to Antequera that you will never forget.

Like all our tours, this one is also customizable, so you can choose to spend the time differently, choose the meeting point, add a coffee stop: the guide will be exclusively dedicated to your group.

What will we see?

Alcazaba

For almost 700 years, Antequera was an Islamic city, and its Alcazaba was always in the spotlight due to the strategic location of Madinat Antaqira. We will walk around its walls in a beautiful setting and discover why the people of Antequera simply call it “The Clock.”

Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor

The first Renaissance temple in Andalusia had everything to be a Cathedral: monumentality, art, renowned architects… However, it remained a Collegiate Church. But what is a Collegiate Church? What importance did it have for Antequera? A symbol for the city, now and always, that has much to tell us.

Arch of the Giants

Located where one of the medieval gates of the city was, decades after the Christian conquest, this gate became one of the first open-air Roman art museums in the world.

Plaza del Coso Viejo

A monumental square presides over the city center. Here we can find the statue of Fernando I. The grandfather of the famous Ferdinand the Catholic would eventually be known as “the one from Antequera,” a nickname closely related to the history of this city.

San Sebastián

Of the many churches we have, San Sebastián stands out for its wonderful Baroque bell tower visible from many points in the city. But also, a very important character who has inspired stories and legends is buried here.

Peña de los Enamorados

In the distance, a figure stands out from any point in the surroundings. A mountain with a very special shape has inspired the inhabitants of the entire area since prehistoric times. Although we will not go there, we will see this hill perfectly from afar, which even Christopher Columbus mentioned on his historic voyage to America.
